Laughing gas sedation is a wonderful option for patients that experience mild dental anxiety or phobias when visiting the dentist. Laughing gas sedation is administered using a tiny mask placed over the nose and is mixed with oxygen. Laughing gas sedation provides a calming effect while still allowing the patient to communicate with our dental team and follow directions. Following your treatment, laughing gas sedation wears off quite quickly, allowing you to resume your daily activities.
Oral conscious sedation is a great option for patients that experience more moderate dental anxiety. Oral conscious sedation involves prescribing a medication (often one for anti-anxiety) prior to the patient’s appointment. The medication is taken prior to treatment and provides a calming experience while the patient is receiving treatment. Due to the fact oral conscious sedation can take quite a while to wear off, you need a ride to and from your dental appointment. We also recommend taking the rest of the day off.
IV sedation is the best option for those that experience severe dental phobias or anxiety when visiting the dental office. IV sedation is administered intravenously, allowing the patient to experience a calming effect within moments. Following treatment, you will be closely monitored by our dental team. A ride is required following your treatment, and we also recommend taking the rest of the day off.
